DBVW e.V. (German Alliance of Water Management Associations)
represents the expertise and interests of regional water management
associations in order to secure and sustain the statutory and
political framework in dialogue with politicians, citizens and businesses.

On 6 and 7 September, the Netherland’s Union of Water Boards hosted the annual meeting of the European Union of Water Management Associations (EUWMA) in Vinkeveen. The national umbrella organisations for local and regional water management in various European
states share experiences and knowledge with each other.
Water is a precious resource upon which all of our livelihoods depend. The development of society and the economy is based on an intact water sector ecosystem.
Access to water resources, drinking water, sanitation and wastewater management should not be taken for granted – nor should the management of water bodies to prevent flooding and droughts. It should be treated as a privilege, and treasured and protected as such.
The UN has already included the sustainable management of water and the protection of our water resources from pollution and overuse (BMZ Water Strategy) as separate targets in its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The German Federal Government has also committed itself to these targets with the national relaunch of the sustainability strategy.
As representatives of water management associations, we are actively responsible for the achievement of these targets. We stand for the protection of water as a sensitive common good and the consideration of sustainable water management at all levels of international, national and regional decision making.
As an umbrella organisation operating throughout Germany, we bring together regional water management associations to represent, safeguard and sustain common interests and competencies at national and European level.
